zamani – what’s in a name

Zamani Store brand story - behind the heritage watch bands

When we were choosing a name, we spent a lot of time playing with ideas that tied back to heritage, storytelling, and meaning. Some of the names we considered were waqt وقت (time in Arabic) and Kan Yamakan كان ياما كان (once upon a time), among others. Each one had something we loved, but none of them felt quite right for the bigger picture we had in mind.

We wanted a name that spoke to tradition but was also simple, memorable, and open enough to grow with us as we expand into new product lines. That’s how we arrived at zamani.

In multiple languages, zamani refers to the concept of time, with a hint to the past and the generations that came before. The “i” at the end makes it personal: my time, my past. Together, that play between my past and my time carries a powerful sentiment, honoring where we’ve come from, empowering the present moment, and opening the path to the future.

We loved that it was easy to say, carried meaning across different cultures, and connected beautifully to what we’re trying to do, bring heritage into the present in a way that feels timeless.

For us, zamani isn’t just a name. It’s a reminder that what we create is part of a bigger story, one that honors where we come from while making space for new chapters. It’s why our slogan  Wear Your Heritage feels so natural to us.
