The Design Process: From Idea to Wrist
Every zamani band starts with a story. For the tatreez band, that story began with a pattern that has been hand-stitched for generations. Tatreez is more than embroidery. It is a visual language passed down through families, where every motif carries meaning and memory.
Before zamani ever existed, we had already spent years exploring heritage through design. One of our earliest projects was Coloring Palestine, coloring books that reimagined traditional embroidery and ceramics as illustrations for all ages. That work gave us a deeper respect for tatreez and laid the foundation for how we now approach every band: with care, authenticity, and cultural understanding.
From the very beginning of the tatreez Band, we knew the design had to feel instantly familiar to anyone who recognized the craft, while still working as an everyday watch band. We went deep into research, studying patterns, colors, and proportions, and listening to people who grew up surrounded by embroidery.
The most iconic colors of tatreez, bold black and vivid red, became the anchors of the design. We translated the stitched texture into a printed pattern, carefully testing how each line and detail would appear on the wrist.
It wasn’t a quick process. We tested different layouts, band sizes, and finishes, making adjustments until the pattern felt just right. We looked at how it appeared from different angles, how it paired with watch faces, and how comfortable it felt to wear throughout the day.
When the tatreez band finally launched, it quickly became one of our most recognizable designs. It carries a story of heritage, transformed into something you can wear every day. A reminder of a craft that has traveled across time and borders.
The process may vary with each heritage we explore, but the foundation remains the same: research, respect, testing, and care. At zamani, every design is more than decoration. It is a story you can carry on your wrist.
