Lessons Learned Along the Way
When we first started zamani, we thought the hardest part would be designing the bands. It turns out building a brand from scratch is a series of tiny experiments, mistakes, and small wins that quietly shape everything you see today.
When we launched, our packaging was as simple as it gets: a clear plastic sleeve with a sticker of our logo on the front and the strap size details on a sticker at the back. It worked when we were just starting out, but as we grew we quickly realized we needed more. We wanted packaging that felt giftable, something that looked like it belonged to a brand you could trust. We also wanted the ability to customize the packaging on occasion, so that a collection or band could have its own personality. That’s how we ended up with the system we have today: a core box design that we can customize with patterns, like the Lebanon box or the Saudi box, and space for barcodes and unique SKU details on the back so our warehouse and fulfillment partners can manage orders more smoothly.
We made plenty of other small shifts along the way too. In the beginning, we sold Apple watch bands in four separate sizes (see our Watch Guide) based on the case size and the strap length. It made sense at first, but it left customers confused and made things unnecessarily complicated for us. Eventually, we realised we could combine two strap lengths into one box. It seems small, but at the time it felt like a breakthrough! It made everything simpler, both for us and for our customers.
We’ve also learned how many different people and teams it takes to make zamani work. Our team has grown, and we collaborate with designers, content creators, developers, and fulfillment centers in multiple countries. Learning how to communicate well, build trust, and keep things moving smoothly has been one of the biggest parts of this journey.
The biggest lesson of all? This was never just our story. From the very first band, it became a collaboration with everyone who wore it, shared it, or told their story through it. zamani grew because people wanted heritage to live beyond borders, and we were just the bridge.
This journey has taught us humility, patience, and the power of community. It reminded us that every big idea starts small, and grows through the people who believe in it.
